Background

“Margaret Thatcher’s political career has been one of the most remarkable of modern times. Born in October 1925 at Grantham, a small market town in eastern England, she rose to become the first (and for two decades the only) woman to lead a major Western democracy. She won three successive General Elections and served as British Prime Minister for more than eleven years (1979-90), a record unmatched in the twentieth century.”1

It was a Soviet journalist who named her the “Iron Lady” to depict her uncompromising politics and leadership style. She relished the nickname—showing full recognition of her powerful public image and demonstrating the strategic savvy to perpetuate it.

Born Margaret Roberts, she was raised with strong Conservative political leanings. With a university degree in chemistry, she made two unsuccessful attempts at an elected seat in Parliament when she was 25-26. She married Denis Thatcher in December 1951 (at age 26), and immediately began studying for a degree in law to further her political ambitions. Rather than be discouraged by her defeats, she was hooked and determined to be successful.

Several months after the birth of their twins in 1953, she graduated and qualified as a barrister (the British equivalent of a court room lawyer).

She was elected to Parliament in 1959 as representative of a north London area, which she served continuously until 1992. Her visibility rose dramatically when she was appointed Secretary of State for Education and Science in 1970 by newly elected Prime Minister Edward Heath as he formed his new government.

Building political momentum, she defeated Heath to become Leader of the Conservative Party in 1975 (a title he had held for ten years), and was elected Prime Minister of Great Britain in that nation’s 1979 general election. She held both positions until she stepped down in 1990.

Her remarkable achievements were hardly random luck. She began the process of honing leadership and political skills while still in school at Oxford in 1946 where she was elected president of the student Conservative Association and was noticed by the Conservative Party’s leaders in London. And as you’ll see, she had a Human Design that was made for leadership.

Her Chart

With seven of her nine Energy Centers DEFINED (colored in), Margaret was born to make an impact on people. Since leadership was one of her major character attributes, let’s look at where that showed up in her chart and how her chart configuration supported her powerful expression of leadership.Chart for Margaret Thatcher

Profile

Her 5/1 Personality Profile was a significant asset—giving her natural leadership qualities. The “5” attracts people… and their projected expectations. She clearly stepped into the right “projection field” in her chosen political arena where she was able to fulfill the expectations. While she drew sharp criticism for her conservative policies throughout her political reign, she had enough popular and political support to be elected to three consecutive terms as Prime Minister!

The “5” Profile also has an ability to influence and sway people—a “seductive” quality which she used (possibly unwittingly but successfully) in multiple elections and in convincing many to support and implement her controversial economic policies.

The “1” Profile is investigative and data-driven—a quality that absolutely served her well. It supported her ability to know so much about so many issues, backed by research, facts and figures.

Type

As a Generator, she had the sustainable energy needed to hold demanding and high profile leadership positions for several decades.

Incarnation Cross (formed from top 4 numbers in number columns)

Her Incarnation Cross, left angle cross of the Clarion (version 2)—her path in life—is designed to wake people up with intuitive awareness about what solutions are needed and exactly how to implement them. The clarion, a trumpet with clear, shrill sound, calls attention to itself so an important message can be shared.

The primary energy of this cross is penetrating intuitive awareness (Gate 57).  Margaret exhibited powerful instincts and intuition throughout her career, exemplified by her unwavering certainty about how to pull Britain out of its recession. Her certainty about this and so many other issues seemed grounded in a deep knowing—which is what this Gate provides. Obviously she added tremendous intelligence and factual knowledge to this “knowingness” but her conduct did not seem simply based on intellect. Analyses and facts are often unclear or inconclusive. She operated with a decisiveness borne of something much deeper.

The shock in this cross (Gate 51) serves the purpose of shaking people out of their complacency to see the bigger picture—the unlimited nature of humanity and our role in the Divine order of things. Margaret seemed to always have the big picture in mind as she steered her country through economic recovery, labor strikes, racial unrest, the Falklands War, foreign relations challenges, and the end of the Cold War, among many other issues. And she was not afraid to take bold and unyielding positions on issues—much to the shock of her compatriots and the world.

Her Gate 62 provided the ability to handle details, be organized, and operate within organizational parameters. Her Gate 61 enabled her to think deeply and ask “why” about many subjects.

Defined Head and Ajna Centers

The top two Centers in her chart, the yellow Head Center and green Ajna Center, gave her additional influence and certainty. Her Defined Head inspired those around her and helped her stir excitement with her ideas. Her Defined Ajna gave her capacity to hold data, knowledge, and beliefs like a steel trap. I believe both gave structure to her Iron Lady persona.

Defined Channels

A quick look at the channels that defined her Centers shows that she was a deep thinker (61-24), designed for leadership (7-31), had innate power supported by strong instincts (57-34), and was ambitious—with a “nose” for what works (54-32).

Other Gate Energies

Here are a few of the Gate energies in the rest of her chart that lent support and strength to her leadership success.

Gate 29 – driven by commitment and perseverance (no surprise here)
Gate 31 – mature life theme of elected leadership (no surprise here either!)
Gates 7and 32 – able to direct the accomplishment of grounded ambitions
Gates 7 and 34 – placed high value on power and accomplishment
Gate 18 – able to see what’s “off” in a pattern and know how to correct it
Gates 54 and 38 – had big ambitions and the energy to fight for the right ideals and causes
Gate 44 – the challenge of bringing forth lessons from the past to help us move forward effectively (while not getting stuck in the past)
Gates 3 and 42 – a spiritual challenge of recognizing the right timing and right cycles for bringing forth change for the greater good

Final Comments

I remember being aware of Mrs. Thatcher… as the very visible British Prime Minister that she was in the 1980’s… and wondering then what the woman was made of. She did not seem like any other woman or man in the world political arena—or anywhere else!

Now I know what she was “made of” and it helps me understand how she accomplished all that she did. Now I know she was living the full and natural expression of her magnificent design.

This also gives me a fresh perspective about the unique design, role and magnificence that each of us is here to express and contribute to the world.

I could still say much more about her and her chart but will stop here. I welcome your comments and observations! What do YOU remember most about her?
