Here is a brief look at a celebrity’s Human Design chart using just a few of many aspects and layers of a chart. Our purpose here is to give you just a partial glimpse, through Human Design, into this person’s energy dynamics.

Oprah Winfrey

Birth Date: Jan. 29, 1954, 4:30am

Birth Place: Kosciusko, Mississippi

Her Background

Born poor in rural Mississippi and raised in inner city Milwaukee by her single mother, Oprah endured a rough childhood that included repeated sexual abuse.

While living with her father in Tennessee during her high school years, she started working in radio. By age 19 she was co-anchoring the news and was soon moved to daytime talk shows because of her personality. After she significantly boosted the ratings of a Chicago daytime talk show, she started her own production company and her now-famous, multi-award winning, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” which was nationally syndicated from 1986 to 2011.

She is credited with altering the tabloid-style TV talk show genre by developing her signature focus on self-help, book authors, and spirituality. Along the way she also shared with her audience many of her personal struggles—making her very “real” and vulnerable despite her obvious success.

Widely regarded as the most influential woman in the world, she is “ranked the richest African-American of the 20th century” and called the “greatest black philanthropist in American history.”

How did she overcome poverty and adversity to reach this pinnacle of fame and influence… which she generously uses to help others in many ways? How on earth has she accomplished all of that?

Her Chart

The first answer to those questions is that Oprah is a Generator Type, endowed with sustainable, consistent energy for working and living life. She can, and does, keep going and going and going.

The second significant aspect of her chart is her Open Throat Center. Here she is gifted with an ability to communicate in ways that her audience can really hear, and she can speak “FOR them” as their voice. Her questions to guests on her shows were “our” questions, or ones we were glad she that she asked because we learned so much from them. This comes from really knowing her audience.

Let’s look at how her Defined Channels have influenced her life.

61-24 The Channel of Awareness. This is the channel of The Thinker — someone who is constantly exploring new thought as well as life’s mysteries, and inspiring others to expand their awareness. Clearly this was a significant influence in her life… and became her path to success!

29-46 The Channel of Discovery. This is an energy for commitment, perseverance, determination, and perfect timing. She displayed all of these traits to a remarkable degree throughout her career.

34-57 The Channel of Power. This is a channel of survival, using intuitive awareness and sheer stamina and vital energy. No wonder she succeeded in pulling herself up by her own bootstraps!

19-49 The Channel of Synthesis. This channel’s two component Gate energies are significant in themselves. The 19 is sensitive to one’s own needs and to the needs of others. The 49 is revolutionary, especially in relationships, and will not back down from their principles. Her sensitivity to the needs of her audience is the foundation on which she built her empire. And her uncompromising stand on principles and high standards ensured her unfaltering rise to the top.

This is a lady with powerful channel energies that she wields wisely and relentlessly.

A quick look at the other energies in her chart reveals more supporting evidence for her meteoric rise and the specific path she used to get there. She has the energy for: details (62) and correction of patterns/errors (18), out-of-the-box thinking (43), storytelling (56) especially stories of the human experience (33), ambition (32), starting things (53), bringing transformation by working from the limitations of current reality (60), nurturing and sharing values with her “tribe” (50), being a jack of all trades (35), and being articulate (12).

Summary

Perhaps because of her challenging background, Oprah intuitively learned to follow her gut instincts (in Human Design terms, her splenic awareness and her Sacral response).

She obviously discovered that when she waited for the right timing to voice her ideas and stories (Open Throat), she could share her inquisitive nature with the world in a way that was highly successful.

Oprah clearly figured out (probably through sheer determination and perseverance) how to leverage her strengths and fire on all cylinders.

The truth is that we are ALL capable of maximizing OUR unique strengths and firing OUR cylinders. True to form, Oprah is an inspiration to all.

  1. I am just learning of Human Design and I must say I’m a little skeptical. It seems to me that Oprah is the exception that disproves the rule. She is a generator type which as I understand it means one waits for things and then responds, but she is the very definition of an initiator and manifestor. I know that she does work in accordance with the rhythms of the universe and that she does put out her desire and listen for the universe to respond at times, but I would not by any stretch see her as waiting to respond.
