Series: Voices of the Throat #9 – Gate 8 “I Contribute”

by Evelyn Levenson

This series explains the energy of each Gate around the Throat Center so you will know how to communicate effectively and authentically as YOU. For each gate, we’ll cover the circuitry of the gate, its gifts and challenges, its “voice,” and practical ways to apply this information. The Introduction to this series can be found here. Links to the rest of this series are at the end of this post.

Circuitry:

Every gate energy belongs to particular circuitry within the chart, which is like an electrical circuit board. This circuitry shows the evolutionary role of the gate energy and how the energy moves through the chart.

Circuitry of this Gate:

Circuit Group: Individual
The Individual Circuit Group serves the world by bringing forth uniquely individual change (mutation) which indirectly empowers others to transform.  It is personal energy, here to follow its own direction and not fit in with others.

Circuit: Knowing
The Knowing Circuit energies are agents of the creative process that drives human growth and evolution.  These energies understand the world by simply “knowing,” not based on logic or experience.

High Expression of this Gate:

If you have the Gate 8 defined in your chart, you are here to make your contribution to society by first gaining people’s attention and then promoting truths, causes, ideas, people, or products that you “know” will be of benefit to them.

You are particularly drawn to “mutative” ideas, creative solutions, and innovative people. Your lifestyle is the expression of your unique identity and your unconventional path in life.  At your very best, you are an exuberant creative role model.

Your creative expression serves to promote what you believe in, like an agent or representative, rather than directly creating.  If you also have the Gate 1 defined in your chart, then you are the creator as well.

Others will then follow your lead, or not.  Your impact is accomplished through leading by example and empowering others, not by leading directly or by dictating, forcing or demanding.  If, however, you also have Gate 31 or Gate 45 defined, you will lead more directly.

Low Expression of this Gate:

In the low expression, you may feel lonely or melancholy.  As with all Individual gate energies, the Gate 8 is designed to stand out from, rather than fit in with, the crowd.  It can be lonely on the leading edge!

This is a projected gate energy and, like all projected energy, must wait for recognition and right timing to express your uniqueness and truth so that you can be seen and acknowledged.

The Gate 8 energy can feel like a relentlessly driving force within you to save the world, or at least save people from themselves!  It can wake you up at night in a cold sweat with an urgency to make a difference in the world, especially if you don’t yet know what to do or how to do that.

Your impulse to want to help others can wear you out.  If you have Gate 27 defined or have an undefined Solar Plexus Center, you may especially struggle with setting and maintaining healthy boundaries.

Your Voice with this Gate:

This gate uses the words, “I contribute.”  Or, perhaps, “I know I can make a difference.”

If you have this gate defined, it’s appropriate for you to say these words often. Or, perhaps you admit that, “I don’t know if I can make a difference…”

Tips for Using this Energy:

-Don’t be afraid to march to the beat of your own drummer… you are designed to stand out, not fit in.

-This energy can drive you hard and drive you crazy.  It helps to understand all other aspects of your Human Design chart, so you know how to manage this drive in ways that are correct for YOU.

-You’re designed to be public in promoting and advocating for what you believe in.  Learning marketing, PR, or public speaking may be helpful.  Though with Gate 8 defined, you may also be a natural at these skills!

-Understand how you are wired to draw attention and recognition from others.  For example, a Manifesting Generator will do that differently than a Projector.  A second line Profile (e.g., 2/4) will do it differently than a fifth line Profile (e.g., 5/1).  Know thyself.

Next gate moving clockwise around the Throat Center:

Gate 31, with the Voice “I lead.”  If your Gate 31 is defined, start noticing how often you have the impulse to lead, to be of service, or to represent (and try to fulfill) the needs and desires of others.

  1. Thank you for your articles and for this one especially. Beautiful Gate, but challenging to handle and to keep “under control”. I feel constantly a so strong pressure to contribute that it can be exhausting, and I sometimes desperate that I will finally find the best way to contribute. I also have 43-23 Channel. I love this trio and would be so happy to get the best of it! I know I will!
