Series: Voices of the Throat #7 – Gate 45 “I Have”

by Evelyn Levenson

This series explains the energy of each Gate around the Throat Center so you will know how to communicate effectively and authentically as YOU. For each gate, we’ll cover the circuitry of the gate, its gifts and challenges, its “voice,” and practical ways to apply this information. The Introduction to this series can be found here. Links to the rest of this series are at the end of this post.

Circuitry:

Every gate energy belongs to particular circuitry within the chart, which is like an electrical circuit board. This circuitry shows the evolutionary role of the gate energy and how the energy moves through the chart.

Circuitry of this Gate:

Circuit Group: Tribal
The Tribal Circuit is concerned with survival of the tribe. It provides support and protection for family and community and transforms individual ambition into teamwork. This is group energy in which the good of the tribe/family comes first.

Circuit: Ego
The Ego Circuit energies govern the structure of how we function in groups, including laws, values, business agreements, marriage, families, communities, and management of resources. It contains emotion, but no logic (logic is in the Collective Logic circuitry).

High Expression of this Gate:

If you have the Gate 45 defined in your chart, you are a natural leader and teacher who likes to be in control and “make stuff happen!”  This is not democratic/representative leadership!

You are a “gatherer” of people and resources, and your instinct is to protect and guide them.  But you are not here to do the work itself—there is no Sacral energy here.

Often called the gate of the King or Queen, this energy can have a regal presence and others will defer to your rule.  Like a benevolent ruler, you can rally your subjects, ensure their needs are met, and bestow peace on your realm.

You call the shots as the singular voice of the tribe.”  Though your love of control makes it hard to delegate to others, you work best when others (especially those with a defined Gate 21, which is the other half of the 45’s channel) do the actual allocation and management of the resources.

Low Expression of this Gate:

In the low expression, you may be deeply possessive about money and material items, and even possessive in relationships.

You may be autocratic in your leadership style and dominate others in order to stay in control.  While this is somewhat natural for you, making the effort to inform others before you take action (even if you’re not a Manifestor) will help to smooth ruffled feathers and avoid negative reactions.

Though you can be shrewd with money, you may prefer to distribute resources (spend money) rather than conserve.  This can lead to conflicts with those who have the Gate 21 defined, who usually prefer to be careful with spending.

Because of your penchant for control, you may not work well with others or take orders well within a hierarchy structure so you may prefer to work for yourself.  You also may overwork and therefore need to be deliberate in maintaining a healthy work-rest balance.

Your Voice with this Gate:

This gate uses the words, “I have…” or more appropriately, “We have.”

If you have this gate defined, it’s appropriate for you to say these words often. This is tribal energy so you’ll often speak for the group, with an emphasis on material possessions and resources.

You also may speak of what you “don’t have” and there may be a tendency to see the world as divided into “haves” and “have-nots.”  You definitely want to be among the “haves.”

Tips for Using this Energy:

-Pay attention to opportunities to lead others, and step into that role when your Strategy and Authority give you the green light.

-Notice your tendency to be authoritarian and soften it with informing, awareness, and a willingness to share control when appropriate.

-Make sure you build rest into your schedule, so you maintain a healthy work-rest balance.

-Be deliberate about tracking your finances in ways that work for you, so that you can enjoy yourself and be generous without overspending.

-Knowing you can be fiercely protective of people and things you care about, be selective about who and what qualifies for this protection.

Next gate moving clockwise around the Throat Center:

Gate 33, with the Voice “I remember.”  If your Gate 33 is defined, start noticing how often you say this or say, “I don’t remember…”

  1. Dear Evelyn,
Thank you very much for sharing these explanations with us. This is a great project that will bring much light for those who want to know themselves better.
I’m a manifestor (emotional) with channel 21/22 defined (black) and this gate 45 is red (should I considered it defined too? if so,what is the difference between being balck or red). Obviously I am new in Human Design.
    Anticipated thanks !!!!
    All the best !!!!

    1. Gates and Channels that are red and black are both defined. So the gate 12 and 45 off the Throat Center are both defined for you. The gates in black reflect the location of the planets at the time of your birth, and are sometimes call “conscious” gates. You are likely to be aware of these qualities in yourself, and can influence how you express them. The gates in red are determined by the location of the planets at a time approximately 3 months before your birth. These are “unconscious”; you may be less aware of them, and less able to modify how you express them.

  2. I forgot to mention that with the gate 45.6 I am also a Reflector so I'm not able to be that LEADER in a sense of being a consistent speaker, that would be a nightmare. But I can see how much more this type can blend well with the gatherer of people or information to assist the whole
